During the more than 20 years of the US military presence in Afghanistan, many interpreters have put their lives on the line just by helping opposing people communicate with each other. After the US decided to withdraw their troops and the Taliban takeover, these interpreters are targeted – and have been captured and killed – by the Taliban.
The ATA (American Translators Association) sent letters to the US government, urging President Biden and others to help these interpreters and their families fleeing the country.
