Every profession has role models and heroes. The German translator Erika Fuchs is one such amazing person. She studied art history, archaeology, and medieval history before she got married in 1932. Her education was of little use in the little town of Schwarzenbach, where her husband was director of a company. She raised two children during World War II and started translating English literature out of personal interest before turning to translating Micky Mouse magazines in the 1950s.
Her talent and skills helped establish this type of literary translation and made her so famous that a museum was dedicated to her in 2015: http://www.erika-fuchs.de.
